My name is Doug Tenzler, President of the Gig Harbor Sportsman’s Club (GHSC). As a volunteer leader, I’d like to welcome you to our club. Thank you for becoming a member. I hope you find the information provided here interesting and inspiring.

As a long-time member and volunteer, I have grown to know and love this organization. A strong commitment to the shooting fraternity, conservation and fellowship is what brings the people of the GHSC together.

It’s been said that shooting is not an easy game, but it is a game of ease. As a shooter I agree with that statement. There’s nothing much better than spending an afternoon or evening on the range shooting and communing with friends and associates.

That’s the goal we strive for here at the GHSC. It shows in everything we do from the friendly atmosphere through to our mission statement:

To provide a facility and organization that safely, enjoyably, and economically allows our members, guests, and our community to participate in the shooting sports and fellowship of the Club.

From the beginning Shooter to the expert, from the casual shooter to the avid competitive one the GHSC has something for everyone.

GHSC, located just outside picturesque Gig Harbor, was incorporated in 1947 as a sportsman's club for hunters and shooters. Today it is a full shooting facility with 7 trap houses equipped with automatic traps and voice calls. There is five stand, duck tower, and sporting clays shooting, along with a covered rifle and pistol range. The club is open to public access 5 days a week for rifle/pistol shooting, and on Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons for shotgun sports.

The club strives to provide a safe shooting environment where both the membership and general public can enjoy the wide range of shooting activities offered. Along with hosting registered PITA and Olympic Continental League shoots, the club is actively involved in high school intramural league shooting, Boy Scout marksmanship merit badge, and hunter safety training. Local law enforcement agencies, including the Washington State Patrol use the GHSC facilities weekly for training.

Volunteerism is one of our key components here at the GHSC. We try to make everyone feel “at Home” here while attending to the needs of the club and shooter. We’ve been able to keep costs down because members volunteer their time and expertise to keep the cost of maintaining the club’s buildings, grounds and equipment under control. Most of the clubs activities, such as the Rifle and Pistol Range, Sunday Shotgun Sports, and the Kitchen are also staffed with volunteers. Don’t be surprised if someone taps you on the shoulder and asks you for some help. That’s what makes the GHSC function so well. If you’ve just become a member or would like to learn more about the GHSC, please contact us at 253-858-9023 or e-mail us at- webmaster@sportsmans-club.org

In September, the annual Seafood Trap Shoot has become the hallmark of the club's approach for registered shoots; attendees have a hard time deciding what they enjoy more, the shoot, or the fresh seafood dinner on Saturday night. If you like to shoot, GHSC is a friendly club that provides a wide range of activities to accommodate you; come visit us.

Welcome to the Club!
