Rifle and Pistol Range Rules
Each shooter is required to observe and comply with all range safety rules; if in doubt, ask the Range Officer. As a firearms owner/user you are responsible for your actions.By signing the range sign-in sheet, you agree to abide by all the following rules:
1. All firearms will be unloaded, actions locked open, magazines removed, and cylinders and loading gates open at all times except when the shooter is in position on the firing line and the range is clear to fire.
2. Always keep the muzzle pointed in a safe direction. All firearms will be pointed directly down-range when on the firing line. Long guns will be stored in racks, unloaded with the actions open.
3. Everyone must wear ear and eye protection at all times when the range is clear to fire.
4. Always keep your finger off the trigger until shooting.
5. Do not load your firearm until ready to shoot. Load no more than five rounds in center-fire rifle magazines. Load no more than eight rounds in center fire pistol magazines
6. Hand gunners: Acquire your target by coming up on it from a low-gun position. Do not acquire it by coming down on it from a high-gun position.
7. During a cease fire, do not handle any firearms, ammunition or magazines. Do not approach the firing line during a cease-fire.
8. The range officer will give permission to proceed down range to check and change targets only after the cease-fire bell has been rung, a cease fire has been called, and the cease-fire lights have been turned on.
9. No firearm will leave the range loaded. Firearms that can not be cleared and made safe will remain at the range until the owner can render the firearm safe. This may necessitate leaving the firearm until a gunsmith can be summoned to do so.
10. No one under the age of 18 may shoot without the direct supervision of a parent or other responsible adult.*
11. No one shall discharge a firearm that they are not physically capable of operating on their own. This does not preclude assistance while tutoring. The range officer will have full discretion in this matter and their opinion is final.
12. Each firing position on the firing line has a corresponding target range directly down range. Each shooter must shoot only at an appropriate paper target, properly hung on a target frame per lane except during specific organized club shooting competitions.
13. All shots must be aimed. Quick draw, hip shooting, and other un aimed shots are not allowed. Shooters who shoot at a rate that causes constant misses of the target must slow down their rate of fire. Shooters unable to place shots on target may be asked to leave and not return until completion of appropriate training.
14. Black powder shooters will ensure that all containers of black powder are closed while shooting to prevent any possibility of a flash explosion.
15. Shooters who deliberately shoot the range baffles, yardage markers or supports will be billed for damages and barred from the range.
16. Limit yourself to one shooting station only. During peak times, you may be limited to 60 minutes of shooting time.
17. Absolutely no drugs, alcohol or tobacco are allowed on the firing line or in the range buildings. Any shooter observed with or suspected of being under the influence of either drugs or alcohol will be barred from the facility.
*Note from the webmaster:
By "Direct Supervision" of people under 18, we mean that the adult that brought the minor will directly supervise that minor at all times the minor is on the range. That means physically present at the shooting station so you can directly intervene if necessary. Please don't ask the range officers to "watch" your minor while you are shooting trap, getting a burger or smoking a cigarette. We appreciate that your minor is probably a better shooter than we are. We also appreciate that other ranges may permit it. We don't. Please don't put our volunteer Range Officers into a position where they need to review the rules with you in front of the kids.
